Mavs Fall to Warriors in Game 5
The Dallas Mavericks' magical run in the Western Conference Finals came to an end on Wednesday night, as they fell to the Golden State Warriors in Game 5, 120-110. The Mavericks, who had surprised many by reaching the Western finals, were simply outmatched by the Warriors, who have now won four NBA championships in the past eight years.
Mavs Struggled to Contain Warriors' Offense
The Warriors' offense was on fire in Game 5, as they shot 52.4% from the field and 43.8% from three-point range. Stephen Curry led the way for Golden State with 32 points, while Klay Thompson added 25 points and Draymond Green had 17 points, 9 rebounds, and 7 assists.
The Mavericks, meanwhile, struggled to keep up with the Warriors' offensive pace. Luka Doncic, who had been brilliant throughout the playoffs, was held to just 28 points on 11-of-26 shooting. Kristaps Porzingis added 17 points, but he was also inefficient, shooting just 7-of-17 from the field.
Mavs' Defense Collapses in Second Half
The Mavericks' defense, which had been one of their strengths throughout the playoffs, also struggled in Game 5. The Warriors scored 71 points in the second half, including 27 points in the fourth quarter. The Mavericks simply couldn't find a way to stop the Warriors' high-powered offense.
The loss ends a disappointing season for the Mavericks, who had high hopes of making a deep playoff run. However, they should be proud of their accomplishments this season, as they reached the Western finals for the first time since 2011.
